Chip & Seal Asphalt Surface Treatment in Savannah
Spalding Concrete Company is one of just a handful of Georgia pavement contractors who can reputably install chip seal asphalt. Also known as “asphalt surface treatment,”, Chip Seal, is a cost-effective way to produce a new driving surface that will last for many years. Chip and Seal surface treatments are generally used on roadways with lower volumes of traffic.
The Chip Seal Process
Chip & Seal combines 1 or more layers of asphalt with 1 or more layers of aggregate. A shallow layer of liquid asphalt is sprayed down ahead of a chip (gravel) spreader. Then a roller is used to seat the aggregate. Lastly, excess rock is swept up, approximately 2 weeks afters the process is complete.
Chip seal can only be accomplished over existing chip sealed surfaces, gravel surfaces, or unsealed asphalt. Asphalt surfaces that have been previously sealed cannot be chip sealed. To use the chip seal process, the pores of the underlying asphalt surface cannot be previously sealed.
